is becoming available on the Web and you will find links to useful sites on the School's Home page.
The Workshop is introducing a barcode system for loans and you will need your student card
to borrow items. If you have trouble locating data on a particular device or for a particular
application, and the Workshop staff on the desk are not able to point you to the right Data
Book you can submit a Request for Data form. Lockers and Tools Lockers are available in (PS2) Rm109 for storage of project hardware and personal items. Keys
can be obtained for a $15 deposit. Money should be paid to the cashier in the Student Centre
into the following Electronic Engineering account numbers;

Ordering Components Components are available for issue from the store. You must complete a Store Requisition Form and obtain the written approval of your supervisor on the form before submitting it to the Workshop. You are strongly advised to discuss your options for component choices with the Workshop staff before submitting your Requisition. Where possible you should use components that are kept in stock in our store - please consult the stock list which is kept in the Workshop or on the Web. Orders for standard components from our regular suppliers (Farnell, RS, Radio Parts) are usually placed once a week and there will typically be a delay of 2 weeks on these items (assuming that the supplier has them in stock). Orders from other suppliers are placed less frequently. Please consider the availability of the component you request before you submit a requisition.
Many unusual components have a delivery time of 8 - 12 weeks. Some specialist ICs are also only
available in quantities of 25 or more. Please make sure that the component you are ordering is
suitable for your application before you order it. On more than one occasion students have asked
for a difficult-to-obtain IC, waited 2 or 3 months for it to arrive and then ask the Workshop to
obtain a data sheet on it! Project Theses Copies of project theses from previous years are filed in the workshop area and are available
for borrowing on the same terms as are data books. You should consult with your supervisor to
identify the work of past students which might serve as an example for you as you prepare your
own thesis. Computer Accounts Your Ampere account will still be active from last year. If you have forgotten your password please complete a Password Change Request Form available from the workshop Rm 3.15 or Main Office Rm 4.32. Should you require EMAIL facilities these can be obtained through the student Study Hall.
Should you need access to the UNIX network you will need to apply for them. Application forms
for computer accounts are available from the workshop during opening hours. Programming PALs and EPROMS PALs and EPROMs can be programmed during workshop open hours. But the workshop hours may be
expanded as the year progresses and the demand increases. We also have a PIC-programmmer which
students are allowed to use. All software for the above (ie. emulators and compilers) can be found
under j:\ drive on Ampere. Here is an example of what you will get for the
Pic development tools. |
